Winter holiday in Galtür

Galtür

Varied

The sun glitters on the snowy trees, the silence is only interrupted by the crunch of the snow. You see your breath as little clouds in front of you, you are completely at one with the rhythm of your movement: While you glide through the surroundings on cross-country skis or discover the surroundings while ski touring and winter hiking, you get to know winter in Galtür from its magical side.

Idyllic. Unforgettable. Guaranteed snow.

The Silvretta mountain range is known for its imposing three-thousand-metre peaks. It is crossed by the Paznaun Valley, which offers numerous winter sports resorts. Among them, Galtür occupies a special position. Because the tranquil mountain village is located in the heart of the Silvretta mountain group at about 1,600 meters above sea level. This altitude ensures that the first snow already at the beginning of December transforms the slopes into a paradise for ski and snowboard fans. In Galtür, the winter season lasts until April. In Silvapark, the ski area of Galtür, you can enjoy runs on perfectly groomed slopes.

Skiing holiday in Galtür

If you like it rather wild, you can of course also use one of the deep snow slopes for a freeride experience. Even inexperienced winter sports enthusiasts will get their money’s worth in Silvapark. Little guests, who are just learning the first turns, let off steam on their own practice area with child-friendly descents. A tip: every Wednesday some runs are open until 22:30 and brightly lit by floodlights. Of course, there are also sporty moments to be had on the flat for all cross-country skiing fans. Winter hiking, ski touring and a ski safari, in which you are on skis, in snow caterpillars, in a cable car or a mini bus on the way to strange sounding destinations such as Zeinisjoch, reservoir Kops, Partenen and Bielerhöhle, provide additional winter fun.

An additional attraction in winter is the ice -skating rink in Galtür. Winter experiences off the slopes can be quite slippery – namely when you leave your mark over the mirror-smooth surface on ice skates or take part in the traditional curling. You can rent the equipment directly on site.

Winter off the slopes

If you don’t want to whizz down the mountain but go at a slower pace why not try a guided snow hike, away from the hustle and bustle of the resort, leave your own footprints in the deep powdery snow and experience the silence and beautiful countryside at its best. Many interesting routes are available for your snowshoe hike. Guests who prefer to travel in a group set off with an experienced guide. A special experience are the nightly snowshoe hikes, which the Galtür Tourist Office offers every Thursday.
Winter hiking trips are even more leisurely. They lead through the surrounding area via well-maintained winter hiking trails. While exploring the surroundings at a leisurely pace and seeing the white mountain peaks in the distance, there are plenty of opportunities to stop. You will notice how the stress of everyday life falls away from you almost immediately.
