Lush green alpine meadows, fresh air and spectacular mountain vistas characterize Kühtai – the place is easy to hike! Put on your hiking boots and off you go, on your summer adventure on the mountain – because it starts right on the doorstep of VAYA Kühtai. Marked mountain trails for all levels of difficulty and walking times lead you through the region around the village. If you want, you can climb up to dizzying heights and to summit the many mountain peaks all around. High altitude tours take you from hut to hut, past gurgling streams and crystal-clear mountain lakes. The village is located in the middle of the Kühtaisattel, an alpine pass that connects the Ötztal with the Sellraintal valleys so hikes across the valley are also possible.
Excursion
Straight through Kühtai leads to the historical miner’s trail, which is dedicated to the mining history of the region. It takes you back to times long gone by, it goes through pine forests between steeply rising mountains and rare high alpine plants to the miners house. Eight different trails between two to six hours of walking time make it possible for inexperienced walker to have as much fun here as experienced ones. The Kühtai village circuit, which start south of the church, leads down to the Höhenleistungszentrum, to the Dortmunder Hütte, past the Jagdschloss and the Dorfstadl up to the mountain station of the StartBahn and finally ends at the Gasthof Sonne & Schnee. The trail is ideal for an easy hike, because it is only about 4 kilometers long, with a small change in elevation of only 140 meters

No wonder that Kühtai has been awarded the Tyrolean Hiking and Mountain Trail Seal of Approval. Climbing fans and mountain bike enthusiasts will also find the best conditions in and around Kühtai to pursue their passion. A special experience is also a trekking tour with Icelandic horses. At the end of August, the mountain stage of the Ötzal Cycling Marathon leads over the Kühtaisattel and attracts numerous spectators every year.
