Tips
Activities and Excursions
Summer holidays in Lechtal
When you think of the Lechtal, you picture crystal-clear waters, fragrant meadows and trails that seem to tell their own stories. Instead of crowded mountain stations, you’ll find quiet paths that lead you high into the peaks or simply far away from everyday life.
Hiking
The Lechweg is nature’s cinema. It’s stretching around 125 km from the river’s source all the way to its waterfall. For shorter adventures, take themed trails such as the Water Experience Path or hike to rustic alpine huts, where the Kaiserschmarrn tastes better than anywhere else. A trip to the nearby Tannheimer Valley is also worthwhile: together, the Lech Valley and Tannheim form a true paradise for leisurely hikers.
Biking
Gravel challenge or easy cruising? In the Lechtal, you can have both. Follow the Lech downstream for a relaxed ride, or push your limits in the alpine side valleys. If you like, you can extend your tour to the Tannheimer Valley, where further routes and altitude differences await. A perfect spot for e-bikers and sporty explorers. The new Lechtal Cycle Path is ideal for families, e-bikers or anyone who prefers to take it slow.
Family fun
Dive into the Elbigenalp natural swimming pool, race down the summer toboggan run at Wally-Blitz speed, or marvel at a show on the famous Geierwally stage… boredom simply isn’t an option here. And the best part? The adventures start right outside the hotel door.
Winter holidays in Lechtal
When the first snow covers the rooftops of Elbigenalp, the Lechtal falls silent. No city rush, no crowded slopes. It’s just you, the mountains, and winter the way it used to be.
Ski touring & on-piste fun
Small but special – the Jöchelspitze lift takes you up at an easy pace, high into the mountains. Those who want more variety can explore the ski areas of Warth-Schröcken and Lech-Zürs, which are within easy reach. If you prefer untouched snow, strap on your skis and set off. Discover snow-covered side valleys or climb up to sunny peaks. Between the Lech Valley and the Tannheim Valley, there are fantastic routes for ski tours – from gentle slopes to sunny peaks, where you can enjoy the tranquillity of the Tyrolean winter all to yourself.
Cross-country skiing & winter hiking
In winter, the Tiroler Lech Nature Park transforms into a cross-country paradise. Kilometres of trails wind along the river, accompanied by the crunch of snow and the call of silence. Winter hikers can look forward to fairytale paths through white forests, quiet viewpoints and crisp, frosty air. A little tip: In the Tannheimer Valley, you will also find perfectly groomed cross-country trails and snow-covered winter hiking trails that wonderfully complement the nature experience in the Lech Valley.
For families
The Lechtal is made for little explorers! Families can enjoy tobogganing at the Gibler Alm, ice skating under the stars, or building snowmen right outside the hotel. And with ski schools and gentle slopes close by, those first turns are child’s play. And if you fancy a change of scenery, you can discover new family slopes and child-friendly ski schools in the nearby Tannheimer Valley – ideal for taking your first turns in the snow.
Good to know
Holidays in Lechtal
The Lechtal isn’t a place for the superficial. People who visit this region come here not for the big stage, but for genuine nature, deep relaxation, and quiet awe.
Good to know:
- The valley stretches along the wild Lech River and is part of the Natura 2000 protected area.
- This makes it one of Europe’s last intact wild river landscapes, home to unique flora and fauna. It’s the perfect spot for nature lovers, professional photographers, and hiking enthusiasts.
The region is well-connected, yet never overcrowded:
- From Germany or Switzerland, you can easily reach the valley by car via Reutte or through the Allgäu region.
- The small village of Elbigenalp sits at 1,039 meters above sea level, making it an ideal base for both summer and winter activities.
- Tourism is nearly balanced throughout the year, with roughly half of the guests visiting in summer and the other half in winter. Good news for the region: the trend towards becoming a year-round destination is on the rise.
A special highlight: Elbigenalp is not just the geographic heart, but also the cultural centre of the valley. Here you’ll find the natural swimming pool and the famous Geierwally open-air theatre, which offers summer performances under the sky. The renowned Lechweg also starts here – one of Europe’s top long-distance hiking trails, stretching 125 km.
A special tip: if you are planning a stay in the Lech Valley, you should also plan a trip to the nearby Tannheim Valley. This idyllic neighbouring region perfectly complements the natural experience. Here you will find clear lakes, quiet winter trails and gentle alpine hikes that show how harmoniously the Lech Valley and Tannheim Valley are connected.

What else should you know?
The Lechtal is deliberately not an event-driven destination:
- Instead of après-ski parties, enjoy sunsets in peaceful silence.
- Instead of shopping malls, discover small, family-run businesses.
- In the Lech Valley, it’s the quality of the moment that counts, not the quantity of options.
If you’re looking to slow down, you’re in the right place. And if you’re up for some action: bike adventures, summit hikes and ski days in Warth-Schröcken are just a stone’s throw away.
