In Zell am See and Kaprun, skiing has already started at the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier since the end of October, making the region one of Austria’s most snow-sure areas. From 29th November, the other ski areas, including the Schmittenhöhe, will open. You can expect beautiful slopes and panoramic views of Lake Zell – perfect for families and anyone looking to enjoy a varied day on the mountain.

VAYA tip: The VAYA Zell am See and VAYA Kaprun are perfectly located just a few minutes away from the Kitzsteinhorn. Enjoy the luxury of staying directly in one of the most beautiful ski areas in Austria.
The ski resorts of Aschau and Gerlos in the Zillertal will be among the first to open their doors for the 2024/25 winter season. Planned to start in early December, they offer perfectly groomed slopes, modern lifts, and guaranteed snow. Gerlos, in particular, is known for its varied offerings, from beginner slopes to challenging descents. Off the slopes, you’ll find winter hiking trails and cosy mountain huts.

VAYA tip: Fancy some skiing fun in the Zillertal? The VAYA Zillertal is located approx. 20 minutes by car from the Zillertal and is the perfect place to stay.
Saalbach-Hinterglemm and Leogang are also set to open at the end of November. The region, branded as the “Home of Lässig,” offers one of Austria’s largest ski areas. Snow parks, thrilling slopes, and rustic mountain huts make for the perfect ski day. For a wilder experience, head to Fieberbrunn, known for its freeride tracks.

VAYA tip: From VAYA Fieberbrunn and VAYA Post Saalbach you have direct access to the Saalbach-Hinterglemm-Leogang-Fieberbrunn ski area and can start your skiing fun practically on the doorstep.
The Ötztal valley is one of Austria’s most famous ski destinations and kicks off the season with the traditional World Cup Opening in Sölden in October. A few weeks later, Obergurgl and Hochgurgl follow suit, boasting some of the highest-altitude and snow-sure slopes in Austria. Expect perfect piste conditions, exclusive après-ski options, and the stunning panorama of the Tyrolean Alps.

The Stanton Ski Open in early December marks the official start of the 2024/25 winter season, featuring ski tests, safety camps, live music, and a special programme to celebrate the occasion.

This year, the season is expected to start in early December, as soon as the first snow falls.
