So small and yet so big!
Pfunds is a place where less than 3000 people live. Situated in the Austrian part of the border triangle Austria-Italy-Switzerland, it is, however, almost the only place to go when it comes to winter sports. For those who love winter can let off steam here in six ski areas. In practice, this means: you go skiing in Austria. And then you ski down the slopes in Italy.
Two countries, 200 kilometres
That’s pretty cool, isn’t it? Maybe you’re wondering how skiing works in the border triangle. We have good news for you. The whole thing is pretty simple. The “two-country ski arena” opens up more than 200 kilometres of slopes. They stretch from Nauders in Austria to Vinschgau in Italy. Five different ski areas belong to it: Schöneben-Haideralm, Watles, Sulden am Ortler, Trafoi am Ortler and Nauders.
Ski 6 & Snowcard Gold
For maximum fun on the slopes, we recommend these two treasures: The Snowcard Gold gives you access to four ski areas. You can use it to ski the slopes in Samnaun-Ischgl, Nauders, on the Kaunertal Glacier and in Fendels. And although we don’t really find numbers that sexy, we have to put them into the field at this point. They are impressive: 365 kilometres of slopes, fun parks, children’s play areas, snow safety and free ski buses are waiting for you.
Would you like a little more? Then “Ski 6” is exactly what you need. This lift pass is valid in five ski areas: Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis, Kaunertal Glacier, Fendels, Nauders, Venet. If you like numbers: that’s more than 80 lifts and 350 kilometres of slopes.
VAYA Pfunds
As a starting point for skiing in the border triangle, we recommend the VAYA Pfunds. Here you will stay in beautiful rooms and suites. The house also scores with the usual VAYA vibes. Wood and fine textiles, as well as selected details, make it a cosy home away from home.
In the morning, you can fortify yourself at the extensive breakfast buffet. We dare say that no wish will go unfulfilled. Your ski boots and skis are safe in our ski room. When you return to VAYA Pfunds after a great day on the slopes, wellness is the order of the day. Relax in the indoor pool, in the aroma steam bath, in the infrared cabin, the bio sauna or the Finnish sauna.
Off the slopes
But skiing in the border triangle is not all you can do around VAYA Pfunds. The Pfunds farm shop is also worth a visit. Here you can buy homemade jams and juices, cheese, bacon, cakes, herbs and spices as well as handmade souvenirs. It is open every Friday from 5 pm.
The products of the Gspan distillery come with a few more “turns”. Carefully compiled tastings by noble brandy sommelier Peter Gspan are possible on Thursdays from 8 pm on request.
