Icy fascination glaciers
Meter-thick ice and millennia-old ice, covered in snow even in summer, makes glaciers an alpine fascination. There are a total of 925 glaciers in Austria, eight of which, thanks to their excellent infrastructure, allow you to enjoy fun on the slopes even during the summer months. In the morning you go up into the alpine winter wonderland – and in the afternoon you jump into the lake in the valley, go mountain biking, hiking or golfing. Near the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier, the Hintertux Glacier and the glacier ski area of Sölden you will find properties from the VAYA Group a perfect home base for your glacier adventures.

Winter wonderland of ice and snow
From our properties in Kaprun, Zell am See, Saalbach Hinterglemm and Fieberbrunn it is not far to the glacier ski area of Kitzsteinhorn. From autumn to late spring, wide natural snow slopes, breathtaking views of 3,000 meters, snow parks and freeride routes lure you here. Even if you are not traveling with boards, a trip is worthwhile. The Gipfelwelt 3000 and the ICE Camp with their spectacular ice skating are always worth a visit. Winter fun in the middle of summer can be experienced on the Hintertux Glacier. In Austria’s only year-round ski area, you can enjoy yourself on the ski slopes, even on a snowcat or enjoy the view from the panoramic terrace at 3,250 meters. This means that summer in the Zillertal offers you winter fun even in July and August. Nearby is the VAYA Zillertal, about 40 kilometers away the VAYA Gerlos. In the glacier ski area Sölden you can enjoy the snowy slopes of the Rettenbach and Tiefenbachferner from the end of October to the end of May – the starting point for this is the VAYA Sölden
Good to know
Skiing in summer
In the glacier ski areas of Austria, the adventure of the slopes does not stop just because winter is over. On the contrary, its just beginning when you enjoy a downhill run in the morning and then relax in the bright sunshine and warm weather in the afternoon. But there are a few things you should keep in mind if you go skiing in summer. Due to the sunlight, the conditions are usually only ideal in the morning, after which the snow becomes too heavy. Despite higher temperatures, you should not forget you gloves and helmet. Also, don’t forget to drink a lot and use a sunscreen with a high sun protection factor.
